New HVAC furnace fan testing standards

Is the DOE placing undue regulatory burden on the HVAC industry?

ACHR News reports on the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) new rule establishing test procedures for measuring the electrical consumption of furnace fans and blowers in gas, oil, and electric furnaces. "The rule, which went into effect Feb. 3, is the first step in the DOE's quest to regulate the energy efficiency of such fans," the newsletter reports. Some industry advocates say it's worrisome that the department is willing to regulate the efficiency of individual furnace components, saying that equipment alone does not dictate how it will perform as part of a system.
