Homeowners can expect a less costly heating season

Energy costs are expected to decline this winter, mostly because of warmer weather forecasts. Propane users can expect to save even more.

The New York Times examines a recent report from the Energy Department predicting lower overall heating costs this winter. Many will spend less, primarily because of warmer temperatures, the report says. “But the biggest savers will be the mostly rural and Midwestern users of propane who are expected to spend 34 percent less this winter, because of 24 percent lower prices and 13 percent lower consumption,” reporter Clifford Krauss writes. While propane prices surged last winter due to particularly cold temperatures and higher-than-normal agricultural use, prices are expected to remain moderate this season.
