Propane Training Powers Up Construction Pros at International Builders' Show

WASHINGTON (January 12, 2011)—The International Builders' Show (IBS) is an excellent opportunity to learn about recent and upcoming building trends and new research. To help construction professionals stay abreast of new propane innovations and power up their business, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is offering four training sessions during IBS, January 12-14, 2011, in Orlando, Fla.

As part of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Custom Builder Symposium, PERC encourages construction professionals to attend three free 30-minute "Meet the Expert" sessions and one full-length, 90 minute, training course. Training opportunities include:

Wednesday, January 12, 3–3:30 p.m.
"Specifying Standby Generators: Installation and Value Considerations"
This course reviews the types of electrical generators available in the residential market, and considerations for sizing a standby generator for a home to ensure safety and comfort during power outages. Off-grid generators will also be covered.

Thursday, January 13, 9:30–10 a.m.
"A Comparative Analysis of Residential Heating Systems"
This session compares a wide variety of residential heating systems in terms of first costs, operating costs, carbon emissions, and payback, and will discuss new developments in propane technology.

Thursday, January 13, 10–11:30 a.m.
"Custom Outdoor Innovations with Gas"
This full-length training session covers exciting outdoor living design trends, with propane or natural gas, that extend beyond the backyard barbeque. Construction professionals will learn more about innovations in outdoor kitchen appliances, fire features, outdoor heating, and how to compare carbon emissions of commonly used residential energy sources.

Friday, January 14, 9:30–10 a.m.
"Residential Water Heating: An Energy, Environmental, and Economic Analysis"
This course compares the performance and economic characteristics of 11 types of residential water heating systems, and provides valuable information about the market's most efficient water heaters.

In addition to the live training at IBS, PERC offers 15 free online training courses approved by both the NAHB and the American Institute of Architects.

Each continuing education course is available at www.propanetrainingacademy.com and includes a 60- to 90-minute lesson on propane as a practical solution to residential and green building. Course topics include how to incorporate propane and related equipment into design, building and installation practices, and how to explain propane's advantages to homeowners, homebuyers, and remodelers.
